| What
is the Witchblade? |
|
For
thousands of years it has existed. An intelligent, symbiotic weapon
of incredible power. A living gauntlet that becomes one with its
wearer. The Witchblade: Only women of unmatched strength of mind,
body and will have ever successfully worn it. Its legacy has created
a warrior bloodline back through time and forward into the future.
Joan of Arc wielded the blade as did other great warrior women throughout
the ages. But to wear the Witchblade is to be both its master and
its servant, as this mysterious weapon draws to it what it needs
and casts aside what it does not. Stirring to life at times of crisis
-- during wars, famines, pestilence -- the Witchblade has been used
to cut a swath of blood and viscera through the ranks of previously
insurmountable evil. For decades it has lain dormant, but now in
the early days of the 21st century, the Witchblade has chosen a
new bearer of its power.... and its curse.*

- The Witchblade can form branches powerful enough to
restrain the wielder (1.07 Periculum)
- The
Periculum is a trial that tests a wielder's worthiness to wear the blade.
The wielder undergoes a dream-like state in which past bladewielders
visit and question her to test her worthiness. If the wielder passes,
she becomes one with the blade. If she fails, she dies. Pretenders also
go through the same motions as the wielder when the wielder undergoes
the Periculum (1.07 Periculum)
- Wielders come along every thirty years? (Irons mentions
he doesn't have another thrity years to wait for another wielder) (1.07
Periculum)
- A past wielder's preserved cells are life prolonging
for a short while. Irons uses Elizabeth Bronte's cells to extend his
lifespan, but develops a tolerance after only a few doses. Fresh bladewielder
blood infusions is the long term solution. (1.10 Convegence)
- The Witchblade allows some people to see its transformation?
Gabriel sees the bracelet morph into a gauntlet. (1.11 Transcendence)
- Contact with the Witchblade can yield a longer lifespan,
but can wear off. If it wears off, the individual will need fresh bladewielder
blood to extend his life. (1.11 Transcendence)
- Once a wielder passes the Periculum, she bonds with
the blade on a cellular level, making her blood life prolonging. (1.11
Transcendence)
- A wielder has a one time option to reverse time, but
it comes with a great pain: the wielder will remember very little afterwards
(1.11 Transcendence)
