[Eric
Etebari is Ian Nottingham]
Adept at subterfuge and martial combat, Nottingham is a walking
lethal weapon. A mysterious -- and deadly -- omnipresence,
he has been under Irons' tutelage for most of his life. As
Irons' right hand, one of his missions is to monitor Sara's
use of the Witchblade. Always nearby when the Witchblade springs
into action, Nottingham's relationship to Sara and the Blade
remain a mystery at this time -- as is the depth of his relationship
to Irons...*
1.11 Transcendence:
Ian is torn between his devotion to Irons and his passion
for Sara. Instead of choosing, Ian kneels before Irons, the
man who gave him life, and asks that he take it back. Irons
tells Ian he's not a merciful man and tells Ian to leave.
Ian goes to Sara, holds her hand and knows the Witchblade
senses danger. Sara and Gabriel leave. Dante and the Bulls
enter and only find Ian. Ian pretends to draw his weapons,
but only opens his coat. Dante and the Bulls fire at him.
Ian telepathically warns Sara to run if she ever sees him
again. Dante shoots Ian one more time. Ian falls to the floor
and dies. Irons orders Dante to return Ian's body to him with
his head kept chilled. There is more than one Ian. Irons was
able to create and replicate and improve Ian from the preserved
stem cells of Elizabeth Bronte and the work of well financed
researches. Ian2 replaces Ian. Ian2's more aggressive and
lethal. He knows his primary mission is to protect Irons.
Following that, he protects Sara. He knows that there have
been others before him and that he only exists because Irons
allows it. Ian2 poses as a cab driver and takes Sara to Irons'
mansion. He kills Jake when Jake arrives outside the mansion
and snaps Gabriel's neck, killing him. He loses his battle
against Sara, who stabs him with the Witchblade sword. After
Sara reverses time, Ian is in his armor watching Sara and
Danny drive off without going into the Rialto.
1.10 Convergence:
When Ian grabs a scalpel and hold it up to the Dr. Immo, Dr.
Immo reminds him that he helped usher him into existence.
A bigger piece taken from Elizabeth Bronte's remains is unsuccessful
at reversing Irons' age. Ian asks Sara to go with him to Irons
because Irons needs him. When she refuses, he cuts Sara's
palm and tells her he did it to save her life. He takes the
blood soaked handkerchief to Irons. He knows that if the blood
doesn't help Irons, they could have saved Sara. He wouldn't
have to take more drastic measures. The infusion from Sara
works and now he's torn between Irons and Sara.
1.09 Apprehension:
Ian still hopes that Sara will become part of the family and
he would serve both Irons and Sara. Irons is aware of Ian's
infatuation with Sara. Ian knows that Irons wants Sara's blood.
Ian tells Sara not to accept Irons apology when he and an
aged Irons visit her at the precinct. He tells Sara he's the
one person she can trust. Ian provided the ransom for Conchobar
and gave her the tape of her father. He had stole the tape
from a box of effects from her father that Siri dropped off
to her, but returned it against orders when she needed it
the most.
1.08 Thanatopsis:
Ian is one of three or four people in the world who's capable
of using one shot to take out two live skulls. He kills Armand
Parsegian and Benjamin Wolf with one shot from a high-powered
rifle. Sara suspects he did killed them because he anticipated
a double-cross and killed them to protect Irons. Sara finds
a CD that says Ian could be Irons' son. Ian appears to genuinely
care for Sara. Ian tells Sara he loves her in unguarded moments.
Ian seems hurt when Sara calls him a freak after he offers
to stay close to her. He knows Jake was whisked into the job
over qualified candidates and knows Jake has other reasons
for being at the precinct. While in the holding cell, he can
hear or somehow knows when Jake goes to Dante's office and
agrees to join the White Bulls. Ian almost kills Jake at a
stadium, perhaps out of retribution for Jake throwing a punch
at him inside the interrogation room or for joining the White
Bulls, thus betraying Sara and sentencing her to death. Sara
threatens him with the gauntlet before he can punch and kill
Jake. He asks Sara if she would lift the blade against her
own flesh and blood, implying that they're related.
1.07 Periculum:
Irons orders Ian to watch over Sara. Ian can see Danny. When
Ian sees Danny's reflection in the window, he's upset that
Sara already has a guardian angel. He returns to Irons and
angrily tells Irons that he made him and now he has the capacity
to evolve only because Irons gave it to him. Ian is proud
of Sara for passing the Periculum. They can't take the Witchblade
from Sara after she passes the Periculum, they would have
to take (kill? control?) her. Irons tells Ian that Ian will
be the first to know whether it's possible to take Sara. Then
Irons looks at a DNA screen saver.
1.06 Maelstrom:
When Irons tells him that the Witchblade is off Sara's wrist,
he asks if the blade is testing her and whether it's the Periculum.
He wears a boot that has a blade hidden in the front. It slides
out as a weapon. Instead of carrying out Irons' order to bring
the Witchblade back to him, Ian puts it back on Sara's wrist
and then lies to Irons, telling him that the Witchblade wouldn't
come off of her. When Sara lays unconscious after the Irish
shoot-out, Ian tastes a drop of Sara's blood and then a drop
of his own. He seems sad for her and kneels before her before
he leaves the scene. Irons hits Ian in the head when he comes
back without the blade.
1.05 Legion:
Ian shows his first sign of defiance. Ian, standing with his
head lowered, reports to Irons that Sara was conversing with
different realms. Irons tells him that he should have stopped
it. Ian disagrees and raises his head and tells Irons that
such an intervention may prove valuable later on. Irons forces
Ian's head back down.
1.01 Parallax:
He can catch bullets with his hands. He can jump from several
stories up and land safely on the ground.
He is the only Black Dragon left. Black dragons were given
pscyhotropic drugs and have turbo charged sub-brains that
are sensitive to certain frequencies of sound and light. They
are highly intelligent and lethal. Black dragons can be energized
or disabled depending on the sights and sounds around them.
He appeared to have suffered a seizure when Moby set strobing
lights in the van, but may have just pretended to suffer the
seizure as part of Irons' master plan to get Moby and Sara
into a fight. If he really did suffer a seizure, this may
be his only weakness in combat.
Season 1: Ian Nottingham is Kenneth Irons' bodyguard. His
battle skills are unmatched. His past is still a mystery.
He's been with Irons' since he was a child and is rumored
to be Iron's son. He was created, replicated and improved
from Elizabeth Bronte's stem cells and a well financed team
of researchers. Ian is a Black Dragon, engineered to be lethal,
loyal and obedient. Although Ian appears tough and capable,
especially in his roles as bodyguard, assassin and watcher,
he lacks the maturity to be independent and to interact with
others in a way equivalent to his age. He over relies on Irons
for support and accepts his role as Irons' servant. He can
physically overpower Irons, but still tolerates Irons' criticism
and disparagement. Ever since the Witchblade has chosen a
new wielder (Sara Pezzini), Ian has been monitoring her for
the Blade-obsessed Irons. Ian admires Sara for her courage
and becomes torn between his allegiance to Irons and his admiration
for Sara. Ian proclaims his love for Sara, but has also hinted
that they are "flesh and blood." The amount of genetic
code they share is uncertain at this point. Ian sacrifices
his life to buy time for Sara to escape from the corrupt group
of cops known as the White Bulls. The White Bulls fire on
him and kills him. His body is iced and taken back to Irons.
An Evil Ian (Ian2) replaces the deceased one. Ian2 is more
agressive and lethal and lacks his predecessor's honor. Since
Sara turns back time in the finale, Ian is alive again. Wonder
if Evil Ian exists in the new present.
