[David
Chokachi is Jake McCartey]
A former champion surfer from the West Coast, Jake is now
a rookie police detective assigned to train under Sara. Though
his laid back style is a bit unconventional for a NY cop,
his investigative skills are solid. His admiration for Sara
may extend beyond their professional relationship.*
1.11 Transcendence:
Jake smiles when Sara tells him that Ian's dead. Jake and
Sara setup Dante at a safehouse. Jake calls Dante that he's
arranged a meeting with Sara. Jake tells Sara he's in love
with her. Dante hands a gun to Jake, so Jake can kill Sara.
Jake points the gun at Sara. Sara thinks Jake betrayed her,
but Jake lowers the gun. Orlinski appears. Jake's backup breaks
down a wall and enters the safehouse. Jake has a gun pointed
at Dante, but turns to listen to Orlinski. Dante tries to
shoot them, but Sara quickly points Jake's gun, which he's
still holding, toward Dante. Jake shoots and kills Dante.
Jake leaves the safehouse, but doesn't see Sara, so he drives
to Gabriel's and asks where she is. Gabriel reluctantly tells
him she's probably at Irons'. They drive to Irons' mansion.
Ian2 beats Jake up and chokes him. Jake is near death and
sees himself surfing big waves. He sees Sara and then appears
to be underwater. Jake dies. After Sara reverses time, Jake
is near the Rialto Theater. He's at a payphone and walks away
when Sara and Danny drive off without entering the Rialto.
1.10 Convergence:
Dante assigns the Kate Havilland case to Jake. Jake asks Sara
to help him on the case. Jake gets a call from Sara and tells
him that a hooker in the morgue is Kate Havilland. Sara goes
to Jake's apartment and has a Witchblade flash linking him
to the Bulls and also finds a Bulls bullet. When Jake sees
Burges and Orlinski outside his apartment, he speaks in a
raised voice to warn Sara. When he enters the apartment he
sees the Bulls bullet on the counter and knows Sara found
it. Jake goes to Dante angry that Dante sent Orlinski and
Burges to his apartment. He tells Dante that he had Sara,
but had to speak loud to protect them. Jake tells Sara he
didn't tell her he was in with the Bulls because he didn't
want to frighten her even more. He tells her that Dante recruited
him to get to her. Burges takes Gabriel to Benkstrom's shop.
Burges kills Benkstrom and has a gun pointed at Gabriel. Jake
shoots Burges before Burges can pull the trigger. Jake tells
Sara that he's an undercover FBI agent for the Department
of Justice task force working to bring down the White Bulls.
1.09 Apprehension:
Dante recruited Jake to get to Sara. Jake suggests destroying
Sara's motorcycle when Dante want to make everything Sara
loves go away. Jake wonders how Sara got Charleyne to admit
that a cop killed the pimp Prospero McQueen when she barely
asks a question. He knows Sara's hiding something because
Sara tells him to put Charleyne in holding instead of booking
her. At first Jake thinks that his meeting with Sara at Cafe
Enigma is about mixing partnership with their personal lives.
Sara tells him that the Bulls murdered her father. Jake didn't
think the Bulls were going to kill Sara, but their plans changed.
Dante hands him two engraved bullets to use on Sara. When
Jake, Dante, Burges, Orlinski and the other Bulls go after
Sara at the VCN newsroom, Before Burges has a chance to fire
at Sara, Jake pushes his arms up, causing his shot to go into
the ceiling and away from Sara. Jake and Ian are at opposite
ends of a hall in the VCN cable network building. Both are
trying to convince Sara to trust them. Jake fires at Ian,
but misses. Sara leaves before the Bulls arrive. Jake points
the Bulls in the wrong direction. Although Jake is a White
Bull, he still helps Sara and the Witchblade remains dormant
around him.
1.08 Thanatopsis:
Sara and Jake are assigned to tail Parsegian, an arms dealer.
He lies to Dante and covers for Sara when she goes to help
Gabriel and is late for the Parsegian assignment. The dealer
is shot during their watch. Jake could have ulterior motives
for being at the precinct. When Jake and Sara interrogate
Ian, Ian asks Jake why he was whisked into the job over several
candidates who were actually qualified and if he remembers
why he's really at the precinct. Jake then hits Ian. Jake
is even more angry when he looks into the two way glass and
sees Sara holding Ian's hand. He agrees to join the White
Bulls. Ian beats Jake up at a stadium and is rescued by Sara.
Sara makes Jake stay silent about the injuries he sustained
from the Ian beating. When Sara asks him about the questions
Ian asked back at the interrogation room, he tells Sara is
a load of crap.
1.07 Periculum:
Jake lies to Dante when asked if Sara was at the Irish massacre.
Jake tells Dante that Sara was questioning Irons on another
case during the Irish massacre. Dante knows Jake has a crush
on Sara. Dante invites Jake to join the White Bulls and tells
him that his price of admission will involve Sara Pezzini.
When Jake goes to visit Sara, he finds a White Bulls bullet
among some contents Sara's parent left her. Dante had shown
him one of those bullets in their meeting, so he knows that
the bullets are used to inform other Bulls members to walk
away from a crime scene.
1.06 Maelstrom:
Jake continues to defend Sara when Dante criticizes her. He
also helps Sara when Conchobar is abducted and Dante wouldn't.
Although Jake has roughed up a suspect in the past, he thinks
Sara goes over the line when she beats up and threatens the
life of an Irish hitman who may have info on Conchobar. Jake
gets Sara out of the Irish shoot-out that kills Conchobar
before the cops arrive.
1.05 Legion:
Jake and Dante show Sara evidence of Edward Nolan's guilt.
They aren't pleased that they could have fired at and killed
Nolan in the alley, but Sara saves his life by tackling him
to the ground.
1.04 Sacrifice:
Jake roughs up a suspect named Vaughn to get info out of him
at the precinct. He is upset with Sara over the training he's
getting. He wants to work more closely with Sara on their
cases, but feels left out.
1.02 Conundrum:
Jake is into smart girls. He "digs chicks with glasses."
1.01 Parallax:
Jake may be undercover CIA.
Season 1: Jake McCartey is from San Diego. He has a crush
on Sara Pezzini. He has access to information that most rookie
cops don't have. Captain Dante recruits Jake into the White
Bulls. He joins after he sees Sara holding Ian's hand in the
interrogation room. He is actually an undercover FBI agent
for the Department of Defense task force working to bring
down the White Bulls.
